Treatment Type: Psycho Educational Intervention

Psychoeducation or psychoeducational interventions cover an extensive range of activities that combine counseling with education and supportive interventions. Psychoeducational interventions may be given individually or in groups and may be very specific or generalized. This type of intervention typically involves providing clients with information regarding treatment options, resources, services and symptoms. In addition, providing clients with training regarding self-care, how to respond to disease-related problems; and problem-solving strategies for coping with addiction. These interventions often include the use of books, videos, audiotapes, or computers. Studies using psychoeducational interventions vary widely regarding which specific format, and frequency is most effective. Very specific content approaches such as mindfulness-based stress reduction and cognitive behavioral approaches are identified in these resources as separate interventions, rather than being integrated into overall psychoeducation.
